Job Description
KS2 Graduate Teaching Assistant

Do you want a full year in KS2 where you build classroom confidence before teacher training, while helping pupils make steady, trackable progress?

*** KS2 Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** September 2026 until July 2027
*** £90 - £105 per day
*** Primary School, central Telford
*** Gain experience, prior to starting a teacher training opportunity

The Role:
You will support pupils across KS2 through a mix of in-class support and targeted 1:1 or small group sessions. Your goal is simple. Help pupils who are behind catch up in reading, writing, and maths, then prove it through better lesson outcomes and improved confidence. You will deliver short intervention blocks linked to what pupils are learning in class, so practice stays relevant and progress stays visible. Your sessions will follow a consistent routine: recap the skill, model it, practise together, move to an independent attempt, then run a quick check so you know what to fix next. In reading, you will build fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension through focused questioning and evidence-led answers. In writing, you will tighten sentence accuracy, spelling patterns, punctuation, and editing habits so pupils produce work they can be proud of. In maths, you will strengthen fluency and reasoning by breaking tasks into small steps and pushing accuracy. KS2 expectations sit within the national curriculum, and schools track progress closely across the core subjects.

The Candidate:
You bring calm energy, clear explanations, and consistency. You want practical experience ahead of teacher training, and you are ready to learn from strong teachers and copy the best habits.

  • Degree at 2:2 or above in any subject
  • Strong literacy and numeracy, confident supporting KS2 reading, writing, and maths
  • Comfortable leading 1:1 and small group sessions with clear aims and tidy routines
  • Experience with children through tutoring, mentoring, coaching, youth work, camps, or volunteering is desirable
  • Professional approach to safeguarding, confidentiality, and behaviour expectations
  • Enhanced DBS required, plus right to work checks, references, and standard school vetting

The School:
You will join a central Telford primary school where KS2 support is planned, not improvised. Staff use clear routines across classes, with intervention time built into the week and reviewed against current assessment priorities. You will get direction on focus pupils, session goals, and resources from the start, plus regular feedback so you improve your delivery across the year. Expect a structured environment where adults align on expectations, pupils respond quickly, and your work links directly to the progress the school tracks.

Apply Now:
Send your CV to be considered. If shortlisted, you will get a call to confirm availability, experience with children, and what you want from a teacher training pathway. Checks follow, then the school stage is arranged in good time for a September 2026 start.

Due to the number of applications, only successful applicants will be contacted.
