The Education Network has presented North Durham Academy with a Cheque for £1000

Shaun Porter from The Education Network presented the Sport and PE Department at North Durham Academy with a cheque for £1000 in sponsorship for the new Elite Development Programme on 16th November.

The Elite Development Programme was launched at the beginning of September 2015.

The Elite Development Programme consists of daily coaching sessions for selected students, who have a sporting ability, in basketball, football or rugby.  The programme aims to rapidly increase the student’s rate of development across a one or two year time period. In each sport students are coached by either; North Durham Academy staff for football, qualified to at least Level 2; Rugby Football Union coaches; or Durham Wildcat coaches for basketball.

The Education Network’s generous sponsorship has enabled the PE department to provide each of the students on the Elite Development Programme with their own kit package to wear to train and compete, and an enamel badge to wear on their uniforms to show their status as Elite students.

Mr Thomas, Learning Leader Sport and PE said “I have been overwhelmed by the attitude of the students and the progress that they are making; this generous funding will go a long way to ensuring that the programme continues to function successfully.”

The Education Network place supply teachers across Durham from their office based at the Belmont industrial park and also have offices in Newcastle Middlesbrough and Cramlington.
