£1,500 Donated to Local Schools Social Networking and Anti Bullying Awareness Initiative

Last Wednesday, The Education Network were invited to South Shields Community School (SSCS) to join Singer Song Writer Rich Cottell and other partners raise awareness of the dangers of social networking and cyber bullying.

Rich Cottell, who performed on the day, said `Students can access social media anywhere, it has become as very important part of their lives, but we need to educate them to be safe and responsible as it can also be a very dangerous tool when not used in the right way.

Janet Burdon the schools Business Manager was delighted with the launch and enthused “The Schools own ‘Panda’ brings awareness of bullying in a fun, humorous and engaging way. Through our anti bullying Panda approach, SSCS hope to change how staff and students see and deal with bullying.”

Janet continued “We want students and staff to take ownership of our anti bullying initiative and to have a whole school approach where it is not acceptable to bully or victimise the weaker person and that by being a bystander you are also part of the bullying process.

Our initiative is here to stay and is high profile and visible in school every single day”.

The event was sponsored by Education Network, Carillion and Wynyard Concierge.

At The Education Network, we were pleased to donate £1,500 towards the programme and support the prevention of bullying in the school community. The money will help raise the awareness of bullying not just in the school, but also to it’s feeder schools.

Shaun Porter, a Director at The Education Network said “The initiatives aims is to change attitudes, for students to become more inclusive and welcoming and for them to realise that everyone can do something about bullying”.

Carillion also sponsored the event with an anti bullying cake sale where students raised £58.

Beverley Townsend, Carillion Assistant Facilities Manager said ‘Sadly, bullying is a problem which will probably never go away. It’s existed since the dawn of time, and will probably continue to exist in some form. However it is our aim to reduce its prevalence and its impact. By sponsoring SSCS’s anti bullying campaign we hope to do this.

Wynyard Concierge Services Ltd , has also kindly donated £500 towards the anti bullying scheme, with Helen Daurge, General Manager presenting the anti bullying Panda with the cheque.
