Do you want to work in education with students who have SEMH needs and challenging behaviours? A local Birmingham Alternate Provision school is looking for a Teaching Assistant to help support one of their KS4 students on the SEND register. The primary role of the Teaching Assistant job is to work alongside the student on a 1:1 basis either in the classroom around other students or as interventions. As a Teaching Assistant at this school, you will be providing behavioural and academic support for students who have had a difficult time engaging with mainstream education. You will be providing support to the main teaching staff in different capacities throughout the school; this can entail being a Classroom Assistant, break duties, off-site trips and more, depending on the needs of the school at the time.
As a Teaching Assistant, you will be working directly with the SENCO and the pastoral team to ensure that the students are being supported in the most effective way possible. A Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable and experience working with SEN students is vital. Many of the students at this school have EHCPs, so it is important to have this experience to be able to properly support them. The role:

  • Working as a Classroom Assistant / Teaching Assistant
  • Providing support on a 1-2-1 basis within small classes of KS3/4 children with EHCP’s
  • Engaging in whole-school activities with all pupils
  • Communicating with students with challenging behaviours with patience and compassion
  • Work alongside the pastoral team to support students who have additional needs
