Teaching Assistant
Do you have experience working as a Teaching Assistant in an Alternate Provision setting? Do you want to join a strong team of Teaching Assistants in a role that will provide quality experience and excellent professional development? A small Alternate Provision school in Birmingham is looking for a Teaching Assistant to help provide support for a male KS4 SEN student who requires 1-2-1 support throughout the day. The ideal candidate will have been a Teaching Assistant that has worked with children on the SEND register before and is able to communicate and build relationships with these students.

The school is looking for a candidate who is patient, able to differentiate work and always puts the needs of the student first. There may be occasions where the candidate is expected to work with groups of students as a Teaching Assistant alongside the teacher. Because the team is quite small, there will occasionally be times where the candidate is expected to carry out duties that are generally considered to be outside the role of Teaching Assistant. Sometimes this may involve taking the students off-site, and the Teaching Assistant is expected to accompany the students in this case.

The main responsibilities are:

  • Providing intervention support for KS3 & KS4 students on the SEND register (speech and language, literacy and numeracy intervention)
  • Engaging in wider activities throughout the school and providing support where needed
  • Aid the pastoral team with behaviour management as a Teaching Assistant
  • Help the teacher with differentiating work for students
Benefits you will receive:
  • Outstanding experience working with SEN students with support from an experienced team
  • Access to excellent quality CPD sessions every week
  • Opportunities to take on responsibilities outside the Teaching Assistant role allowing for progression
  • Excellent support from a strong team of Teaching Assistants
This is an excellent opportunity to work at an award-winning school and gain valuable experience working with an amazing team of staff.
