Are you a School Science Technician who wants to work in an environment where you can really make a difference? Are you looking for an exciting new position working with SEN students with SEMH needs? A dynamic Alternative Provision school in South Birmingham is looking for a Science Technician to join their brilliant Science department. You will be providing resources for practical lessons as requested by the Science Teacher in a timely manner. Because of the alternative nature of the school, you may be asked to carry out roles that are outside the role of a typical Science Technician at a mainstream school. As the Science Technician, you will assist the Science Teacher in demonstrating practical lessons, setting the classroom up and cleaning up afterwards and assisting students with experiments. The school is looking to improve the practical side of its science department and increase engagement with the curriculum.
As the Science Technician, you will also be responsible for managing the prep room inventory and ordering new supplies when required. When requested, you may also be asked to provide in-class support in various classes and carry out other duties when needed. As a Science Technician in this school, you will be working in a fantastic setting that truly embraces the nature of its students and wants to give them the best possible chances in life. Many of the students are on the SEND register or have SEMH needs and as a result it is important that you can demonstrate a good understanding of their additional requirements. It is crucial that you can build solid relationships with the students so that they fully engage with you and their education. You do not need to have been a Science Technician previously, however laboratory experience is required for this role. Experience working with SEN children is preferred as behaviour can be very challenging at times.
- Setting up practical lessons with equipment and resources requested by the teacher
