Are you a Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting children with SEN and SEMH needs? Are you looking for an exciting new role where you can motivate and enthuse children with EHCPs to reengage with their education? A lively Alternate Provision school in West Birmingham is looking for a dynamic Teaching Assistant to join their excellent team of teachers and Teaching Assistants. The main role is providing 1:1 support for a KS4 student on the SEND register with additional needs. As a Teaching Assistant you must have excellent behaviour management skills and the ability to form positive relationships with students with SEMH needs. You will be working with the student on a 1:1 basis both in the classroom and in intervention support out of lesson. The school provides itself on providing support that is flexible to students’ needs, so you will need to be able to be assertive and use initiative to give the most effective assistance.
As a Teaching Assistant, you will also provide pastoral support for students struggling to engage with their lessons. You will also assess new pupils on reading and literacy to determine the level of academic support they require. You will be joined by an outstanding team of Teaching Assistants in similar roles who will provide you with support and a wealth of experience. Because behaviour is challenging, it is important that you have a good understanding of the different diagnoses the students have so you can provide the most effective support. A level 3 Teaching Assistant Qualification is desirable but not essential, however demonstration of effective work in SEN is essential.
The role:

  • Supporting a KS4 student on the SEND register on a 1:1 basis
  • Providing support for teachers in lessons with small KS3 and KS4 classes
  • Implementing effective intervention strategies to assist with disengaged students
  • Taking part in whole school activities and trips
  • Forming good rapport with the students
