A Classroom Assistant role is available at a school in South Birmingham teaching students aged 11 – 19. The school has created a special culture surrounding how it uplifts the students and gives them an engaging education through more accessible means than mainstream schools. As a Classroom Assistant you will be working alongside teachers with small to medium class sizes. You will also be providing support for students on a 1:1 basis, both in the classroom and in intervention sessions. The school has quickly become recognised across the region for providing such a broad range of support for its students, which is reflected by its OFSTED ‘Outstanding’ status. They are looking for a new Classroom Assistant to add to the level of care they provide.
As a Classroom Assistant, you will also assess incoming students when they enter the school for reading and writing levels. When you are not in the classroom, you may be asked to supervise children who need a time out from their lesson due to their SEMH needs and provide pastoral support. You do not need a Level 3 Classroom Assistant Qualification for this role, however experience working with SEN children is required.
- Helping teaching staff set up and deliver lessons
- Working with students on a 1:1 basis and in the classroom
- Providing pastoral intervention support
- Understanding and communicating with children on the SEND register and with SEMH needs
- Engaging in wider-school activities outside of the classroom
