A small school in Dudley is looking for a dynamic individual to join their highly skilled team as a Teaching Assistant. Are you someone who can motivate and enthuse children to get the best out of their education? Do you have experience supporting students with SEMH needs in education? As a Teaching Assistant at this school your main role will be helping students with their educational and social development both academically and pastorally. As a Teaching Assistant, you will be working alongside teachers in classrooms to help with lessons and provide 1:1 support to students in need of intervention or time out. You will be providing support both in and out of the classroom to ensure that students can fully engage in a range of activities (this often means off-site visits too). The OFSTED ‘Good’ school hosts students from Year 7 – Year 11 and emphasises the importance of not only looking after its pupils, but its staff as well.
As a Teaching Assistant, you will help teachers set up lessons and provide support throughout. Because of the SEMH needs of many of the students, the behaviour can often be challenging, so it is important that you build good relationships with the children so this can be managed effectively. It is important that as a Teaching Assistant, you are able to diffuse situations in a calm, trauma-informed manner. Having a good understanding of SEND is important as some of the children are on the SEND register. A Level 3 Teaching Assistant Qualification is desirable but not vital, however experience working with SEMH and SEND children is essential.
