If so, this Teaching Assistant role at a large SEN school in South Birmingham is the job for you! You will be working with students aged 9 – 16 with EHCPs to help them engage with the curriculum. As a Teaching Assistant you will be building positive relationships with children with a variety of needs such as Autism and ADHD. You will need to develop strategies to help manage difficulties with behaviour and to promote good conduct.
As a Teaching Assistant you will be ensuring interventions are delivered to help keep students on track behaviourally and academically. You will be responsible for assessing reading and writing levels when new students arrive at the school. The school has an outstanding team of Teaching Assistants who you will be working alongside to deliver pastoral support across the school. The role also entails providing in-class support for students in lesson, where you will be working alongside SEND trained teachers. Due to the pastoral nature of the Teaching Assistant role, you will also be involved in Safeguarding of the students, which needs to be handled confidentially and in line with the school’s procedures.
Experience working with SEMH and SEND students is vital to be a Teaching Assistant at this school. A Level 3 Teaching Assistant Qualification is desirable but not essential.
