Year 6 Graduate Teaching Assistant
Could you help KS2 pupils who need extra support make better progress across the school week? Are you looking for a primary school role that gives you useful classroom experience before teacher training?
*** Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** September 2026 to July 2027
*** £85 - £101 per day
*** Primary school based in Erdington
*** Provide 1:1, small group and academic support across KS2
The Role: Support KS2 pupils through a combination of 1:1 work, small-group intervention, and general academic support across the curriculum. You will reinforce learning in English, Maths, Science, and wider classroom subjects, help pupils stay focused in lessons, prepare simple resources, and give teachers clear feedback on progress. Teaching assistants support teachers in the classroom and help children with reading, writing, and learning activities.
The Candidate: You are organised, encouraging, and able to explain ideas clearly to older primary pupils. You want meaningful school-based experience, enjoy helping children grow in confidence, and are keen to build the practical classroom skills needed for a future in teaching. Primary teachers are responsible for the educational, social and emotional development of children between the ages of 3 and 11, which makes KS2 experience a strong foundation before training.
Requirements- Degree – A 2:2 or above in any subject.
- Communication – Clear and confident verbal and written communication.
- Enhanced DBS – Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate.
- Desire to work in education/with children – Genuine interest in supporting pupil progress and wellbeing.
- Career Goals – A desire to train as a teacher and build a long-term career in education.
The School: This primary school based in Erdington offers the chance to build valuable KS2 experience in a setting where consistent support, strong routines, and pupil progress matter. You will work closely with teaching staff in a role that gives you direct exposure to intervention work, day-to-day classroom practice, and the support strategies schools use to help pupils stay on track across the curriculum. GOV.UK guidance updated on 20 January 2026 confirms that work with children can be eligible for an Enhanced DBS check in the child workforce, with some regulated activity roles also eligible for Children’s Barred List checks.
