Job Description
Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant

Could you be the steady support a Year 10 student needs to stay engaged and make progress in school? Are you looking for meaningful secondary experience before moving into educational or clinical psychology?

*** Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** £85 - £101 per day
*** September 2026 to July 2027
*** State-of-the-Art secondary school, Walsall
*** 1:1 academic support for a Year 10 student with additional needs

The Role:
Work on a 1:1 basis with a Year 10 student who needs extra academic and emotional support across the school day. You will help the pupil stay focused in lessons, break tasks into manageable steps, reinforce routines, and build confidence with classwork while keeping teachers and the SENCO updated on progress. SEN support in schools is guided by the SEND Code of Practice, and SEN teaching assistants are there to help children and young people with disabilities and special educational needs access learning more effectively.

The Candidate:
You are calm, observant, and able to build trust through consistency and clear communication. You want practical school-based experience, you can stay patient in a busy secondary setting, and you are interested in how focused support helps a young person overcome barriers to learning. This role suits a Psychology graduate who wants relevant experience before progressing into educational or clinical psychology.

Requirements
  • Degree – A 2:2 or above in any subject.
  • Communication – Clear and confident verbal and written communication.
  • Enhanced DBS – Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate.
  • Desire to work in education/with children – Genuine interest in supporting pupil progress and wellbeing.
  • Career Goals – A desire to pursue a career in educational or clinical psychology.

The School:
This state-of-the-art secondary school in Walsall offers the chance to build valuable SEN experience in a modern setting where structure, consistency, and purposeful support matter. You will work closely with teaching staff and the SENCO in a role that gives you direct exposure to day-to-day SEND provision, practical intervention, and the support strategies schools use to help pupils with additional needs stay engaged and make progress. GOV.UK’s eligibility guidance for Enhanced DBS checks was updated on 20 January 2026 and remains the key guidance for child workforce roles.
