Job Description
1:1 Graduate Teaching Assistant

Could you make a real difference to one pupil by giving calm, consistent support every day? Are you looking for meaningful primary school experience before moving into teaching, educational psychology, or clinical psychology?

*** 1:1 Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** £85 - £105 per day
*** September 2026 – July 2027
*** Primary school, Wolverhampton
*** 1:1 support for a pupil in Year 3 who is mute and autistic

The Role:
Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a Year 3 pupil who is non-verbal and autistic. You will help the pupil access learning, follow routines, engage with classroom activities, and feel secure throughout the school day, while feeding back clearly to the class teacher and SENCO. Schools are expected to use a graduated approach to SEND support, and SEN teaching assistants help children with disabilities and special educational needs access learning more effectively.

The Candidate:
You are patient, observant, and able to build trust through routine, consistency, and clear communication. You understand that strong 1:1 support is about staying calm, noticing small changes, and helping a pupil feel settled enough to learn. This role would suit a graduate who wants valuable school-based SEN experience in a primary setting before moving into teaching or psychology-related training. Primary teachers support children’s educational, social, and emotional development between the ages of 3 and 11, so this role gives useful insight into that stage of learning.

Requirements
  • Degree – A 2:2 or above in any subject.
  • Communication – Clear and confident verbal and written communication.
  • Enhanced DBS – Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate.
  • Desire to work in education/with children – Genuine interest in supporting pupil progress and wellbeing.
  • Career Goals – A desire to pursue a career in educational or clinical psychology.

The School:
This primary school in Wolverhampton offers the chance to build meaningful 1:1 SEN experience in a setting where patience, structure, and consistent support matter. You will work closely with teaching staff and the SENCO in a role that gives you direct exposure to day-to-day SEND provision, practical classroom strategies, and the kind of personalised support that can have a real impact over an academic year. National careers guidance notes that SEN teaching assistants work closely with teachers to support children with special educational needs, while the SEND Code of Practice sets the framework schools follow when putting support in place.

How to Apply
Apply today with your CV to be considered for this 1:1 Graduate Teaching Assistant role. Shortlisted applicants will be contacted to discuss next steps and arrange interview. Early applications are encouraged, as the school may appoint before the closing date.

Due to the high number of applications, only successful applicants will be contacted.
