Job Description
KS1 Graduate Teaching Assistant

Can you spot when a child is starting to fall behind and step in before confidence drops? Want to work in a KS1 classroom where your support can genuinely lift attainment?

*** KS1 Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** September 2026 – July 2027
*** £85 - £105 per day
*** Large primary school, Ward of Yardley
*** Provide intervention sessions to support attainment

The Role:
Run focused intervention sessions for KS1 pupils who need extra help with phonics, early reading, writing, and number work. You will work with individuals and small groups, reinforce class teaching, support progress in core subjects, and keep staff updated on how pupils are responding. KS1 sits within the statutory primary national curriculum, which includes English, maths, science, computing, history, geography, art and design, music, and PE.

The Candidate:
You are proactive, patient, and able to explain things in a simple way that younger pupils understand. You want practical classroom experience, enjoy helping children make progress, and are keen to build the skills and confidence needed for a future in teaching. Primary teachers work with children aged 3 to 11 and support their educational, social, and emotional development, which is why this kind of KS1 experience is a strong starting point.

Requirements
  • Degree – A 2:2 or above in any subject.
  • Communication – Clear and confident verbal and written communication.
  • Enhanced DBS – Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate.
  • Desire to work in education/with children – Genuine interest in supporting pupil progress and wellbeing.
  • Career Goals – A desire to train as a teacher and build a long-term career in education.

The School:
This large primary school in the Ward of Yardley offers the chance to build strong classroom experience in a setting where intervention and progress matter. You will join a busy team, work closely with teaching staff, and play a useful role in helping younger pupils strengthen the core skills that shape the rest of their primary education. The national curriculum framework is statutory for local-authority-maintained schools in England, so targeted support in these early years of primary matters.

How to Apply
Apply today with your CV to be considered for this KS1 Graduate Teaching Assistant role. Shortlisted applicants will be contacted to discuss next steps and arrange interview. Early applications are encouraged, as the school may appoint before the closing date.
