Job Description
SEN LSA

Could you be the steady, reassuring support a young pupil needs to get through the school day successfully? Are you looking for hands-on SEN experience in a primary setting before moving into teaching, educational psychology, or clinical psychology?

*** SEN LSA
*** September 2025 – July 2027
*** £85 - £105 per day
*** ‘Good’ primary school, Wolverhampton
*** 1:1 support for a pupil with Autism, ADHD and EBD

The Role:
Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with autism, ADHD, and emotional and behavioural difficulties across the school day. You will help the child follow routines, stay engaged in learning, manage transitions, regulate behaviour, and access the classroom more confidently, while keeping the class teacher and SENCO updated on progress. School SEN support is guided by the SEND Code of Practice, which expects settings to identify needs, put provision in place, and review its impact through a graduated approach.

The Candidate:
You are calm, patient, and able to build trust through consistency and clear communication. You understand that strong SEN support is not about being dramatic or overbearing. It is about being reliable, observant, and responsive in the moments that matter. This role would suit a graduate who wants meaningful school-based experience supporting a pupil with additional needs in a mainstream primary setting. SEN teaching assistants support teachers to help children with disabilities and special educational needs, which makes this strong experience for psychology-related or specialist education pathways.

Requirements
  • Degree – A 2:2 or above in any subject.
  • Communication – Clear and confident verbal and written communication.
  • Enhanced DBS – Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate.
  • Desire to work in education/with children – Genuine interest in supporting pupil progress and wellbeing.
  • Career Goals – A desire to pursue a career in educational or clinical psychology.

The School:
This ‘Good’ primary school in Wolverhampton offers the chance to build valuable SEN experience in a setting where routine, patience, and consistent support matter. You will work closely with teaching staff and the SENCO in a role that gives you direct exposure to day-to-day SEND provision, practical behaviour support, and the strategies schools use to help pupils with additional needs access learning. National Careers guidance notes that SEN teaching assistants support children with disabilities and special educational needs, while the SEND framework expects schools to take a whole-school approach to supporting pupils effectively.

How to Apply
Apply today with your CV to be considered for this SEN LSA role. Shortlisted applicants will be contacted to discuss next steps and arrange interview. Early applications are encouraged, as the school may appoint before the closing date.

Due to the high number of applications, only successful applicants will be contacted.
