Job Description
Exam Invigilator

Looking for flexible school-based work during exam season? Can you keep an exam room calm, organised, and fully compliant while students sit their papers?

*** Exam Invigilator
*** £12.71 per hour (2, 3, 4, 6, 7-hour shifts)
*** Secondary school, central Birmingham
*** Exam support through May-June
*** Enhanced DBS required

The Role:
Support the exams team during the May-June exam period by supervising pupils in the exam hall, setting up rooms, distributing and collecting papers, checking attendance, and making sure exams run fairly and securely. JCQ guidance states that invigilators are responsible for conducting exams in the presence of candidates and play a key role in upholding the integrity of the assessment process.

The Candidate:
You are punctual, professional, and confident following clear procedures. You stay calm under pressure, pay attention to detail, and can maintain a quiet, orderly environment. This role suits someone looking for flexible work in a school setting who can be reliable during a busy exam period.

Requirements
  • Degree – A 2:2 or above in any subject.
  • Communication – Clear and confident verbal and written communication.
  • Enhanced DBS – Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate. Recent school invigilator vacancies commonly state that candidates are required to undergo a full enhanced DBS check.
  • Desire to work in education/with children – Genuine interest in supporting pupils and maintaining a professional school environment.
  • Career Goals – A desire to gain school-based experience or build a longer-term career in education, pastoral support, or examinations.

The School:
This secondary school in central Birmingham is looking for reliable support during the busiest point of the exam calendar. You will join a structured environment where routines matter, expectations are clear, and your role will be essential in helping exams run smoothly and fairly for all students.

How to Apply
Apply today with your CV to be considered for this Exam Invigilator role. Shortlisted applicants will be contacted to discuss next steps and arrange interview. Early applications are encouraged, as the school may appoint before the closing date.

Due to the high number of applications, only successful applicants will be contacted.
