The Role: Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a student with autism across the school day. You will help the pupil access learning, follow routines, manage transitions, regulate emotions, and stay engaged in lessons, while feeding back clearly to teachers and the SENCO. SEN support in schools is guided by the SEND Code of Practice, which sets out a graduated approach to identifying needs, putting support in place, and reviewing impact.
The Candidate: You are patient, observant, and able to stay calm in a busy secondary setting. You communicate clearly, build trust well, and want practical school-based experience supporting a young person with additional needs. This role would suit a Psychology graduate who wants relevant experience before progressing into educational psychology, clinical psychology, or teacher training.
Requirements- Degree – A 2:2 or above in any subject.
- Communication – Clear and confident verbal and written communication.
- Enhanced DBS – Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate. Eligibility for DBS level depends on the duties involved, and child-facing school roles can be eligible for an enhanced check.
- Desire to work in education/with children – Genuine interest in supporting pupil progress and wellbeing.
- Career Goals – A desire to train as a teacher or pursue a career in educational or clinical psychology.
