Job Description
KS2 Academic Coach

Do you want a Year 6 focused role where you can build real school experience while helping pupils feel confident and prepared for their end of KS2 exams in literacy and numeracy?

*** KS2 Academic Coach
*** September 2026 – July 2027
*** £85 - £105 per day
*** ‘Good’ primary school, Yardley
*** Prepare Year 6 pupils for exams in literacy and numeracy

If you want experience that strengthens an application for a PGCE, this KS2 Academic Coach role gives you a full academic year working with pupils in the run-up to SATs. You will support Year 6 pupils with targeted catch-up, build confidence with exam-style questions, and help them develop the habits and routines that improve performance under pressure.

The Role
  • You will deliver 1:1 and small group intervention sessions for Year 6 literacy and numeracy.
  • You will support reading comprehension by modelling how to find evidence and explain answers clearly.
  • You will build writing accuracy through sentence-level work, spelling, punctuation, and structured paragraph practice.
  • You will improve maths fluency through arithmetic practise, core number facts, and timed retrieval.
  • You will support reasoning by breaking down multi-step problems and modelling methods step by step.
  • You will teach simple exam routines, including time management, checking answers, and staying focused.
  • You will track gaps, record progress, and share clear feedback with the class teacher so support stays targeted.
  • You will support behaviour for learning through consistent routines, calm reminders, and clear expectations.
  • You will follow safeguarding and behaviour policies at all times and report concerns immediately.

The Candidate
  • You will have a 2:2 degree or above in any subject (English, Maths, Psychology or Education is useful, but not essential).
  • You will have GCSE English and Maths at grade 4/C or above.
  • You will communicate clearly and explain concepts in a simple, pupil-friendly way.
  • You will be organised and confident delivering structured sessions that repeat weekly and build over time.
  • You will be calm, consistent and professional, especially when pupils feel stressed about tests.
  • You will have an enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or you will be willing to obtain one.

The School
This ‘Good’ primary school in Yardley has clear routines and a strong focus on progress in KS2. Staff use structured intervention and consistent expectations to help pupil’s close gaps before the KS2 tests, which take place in May. You will join a supportive team, receive clear direction, and gain practical experience that translates directly into teacher training.

Apply
