Job Description
Primary Graduate Teaching Assistant

Do you want a full academic year in KS2 where you build proper classroom confidence while helping pupils who need extra support make steady, visible progress?

*** Primary Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** September 2026 until July 2027
*** £83 - £102 per day
*** Large primary school, Ward of Yardley
*** 1:1 and small group support in KS2

The Role:
You will work in KS2, supporting pupils who need extra input to secure key skills in reading, writing and maths. You will spend time in class helping pupils access the lesson, then deliver 1:1 and small group sessions to close gaps with tighter focus and higher repetition. Your support will stay linked to what the teacher is covering, so pupils practise the same objectives, and progress stays easy to track.

You will run short intervention blocks with a consistent routine: recap the skill, model it, practise together, move to an independent attempt, then use quick checks to spot misunderstandings and set the next step. In reading, you will build fluency, vocabulary and comprehension through structured questioning and evidence-led answers. In writing, you will support sentence accuracy, spelling patterns, punctuation and editing habits. In maths, you will strengthen fluency and reasoning by breaking tasks into small steps and pushing accuracy. KS2 sits within the national curriculum, so your work will reflect the expectations pupils work toward in Years 3 to 6.

Safeguarding runs through everything you do. You will follow school policy; report concerns quickly and keep professional boundaries.

The Candidate:
You bring calm routines, clear explanations and consistency. You take feedback well and you keep pupils focused without creating tension.

  • Degree at 2:2 or above in any subject
  • Strong literacy and numeracy, confident supporting KS2 reading, writing and maths
  • Comfortable leading 1:1 and small group sessions with clear aims and tidy routines
  • Experience with children through tutoring, mentoring, coaching, youth work, camps or volunteering is desirable
  • Professional approach to behaviour, confidentiality and safeguarding expectations
  • Enhanced DBS required, plus right to work checks, references and standard school vetting

The School:
You will join a large primary school in the Ward of Yardley, Birmingham. The local area has a strong proportion of children and young people, so the school serves a busy community and relies on clear systems and consistent routines to keep learning on track.

You will work in a setting where support staff are used properly, with defined pupils, clear priorities, and regular feedback so you know what to focus on each week. Expect a structured approach to KS2 progress, with intervention time supporting classroom learning rather than replacing it.

Apply Now:
Send your CV to be considered. If shortlisted, you will get a call to confirm your availability for September 2026, your experience with children, and your confidence supporting KS2 in small groups. Checks follow, then the school stage is arranged in good time for a September start.

Due to the number of applications, only successful applicants will be contacted.
