Job Description
EYFS SEN Graduate Teaching Assistant

Are you a graduate who wants early years’ experience while supporting children with SEN needs to thrive in Reception?

*** EYFS SEN Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** Immediate start until July 2026
*** £80 - £100 per day
*** ‘Good’ primary school, Ward of Edgbaston
*** Provide 1:1 and small group support to young children with SEN requirements

The Role:
The appointed EYFS SEN Graduate Teaching Assistant will support children in Nursery or Reception through play-based learning and structured early phonics, communication, and early number activities. You will deliver consistent 1:1 and small group support for children with SEN needs, helping them access routines, learning areas, carpet time, and continuous provision. You will use clear language, visual prompts, now and next boards, and small-step instructions to support attention, transitions, and independence. You will reinforce speech and language targets through modelling, repetition, and targeted questioning, and support early literacy through phonics practice, fine motor activities, and early writing readiness. You will also support regulation and behaviour by following individual strategies, spotting triggers early, and using calm, consistent responses agreed by staff. You will record key progress and what strategies work, then feed this back to the class teacher and SENCo to keep support aligned to targets and provision.

The Candidate:
You bring calm, patience, and structure to early years, even when the day moves fast. You build trust quickly, keep routines consistent, and support children to communicate, regulate, and engage in learning through clear prompts and positive reinforcement. You listen to staff direction, follow individual plans closely, and focus on small daily progress in independence, language, and early skills.

  • Degree at 2:2 or above in any subject
  • Genuine interest in early years development and SEND support
  • Confident supporting communication, attention, transitions, and behaviour through consistent routines
  • Comfortable delivering 1:1 and small group support within a play-based EYFS setting
  • Experience with children through nurseries, tutoring, youth work, coaching, care, or volunteering is desirable
  • Professional approach to safeguarding, confidentiality, and recording concerns promptly
  • Enhanced DBS required, plus references and standard school vetting before you start

The School:
This Good primary school in the Ward of Edgbaston is a supportive, well-run setting with clear expectations and a strong focus on early development. The EYFS team works closely to create consistent routines and strong provision, with targeted support for pupils who need extra help. You will be guided by experienced staff, supported by clear systems, and given resources and direction so your work links to classroom priorities and SEND targets from the start.

Apply Now:
Send your CV to be considered for this role. If shortlisted, you will receive a call to confirm your experience, availability, and suitability for EYFS SEN support, then we will complete safeguarding and compliance checks, including Enhanced DBS and references. Once cleared, we will arrange the next stage with the school and support you through to start quickly and confidently.

Due to the number of applications, only successful applicants will be contacted.
