Job Description
EYFS Graduate Teaching Assistant

Want practical Early Years experience that prepares you for teacher training?

Help children build early language, number and social skills through purposeful play.

*** EYFS Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** Immediate start until July 2025
*** £90 - £100 per day
*** Large, multi-form entry primary school, Yardley
*** 1:1 and small group support in EYFS that includes SEN requirements

What you’ll do:
Set up and refresh continuous provision. Lead short adult-led activities in phonics, early number and fine motor. Provide calm 1:1 support for pupils with additional needs using visual prompts and predictable routines. Guide turn-taking, model talk, and capture quick observations so next steps are clear to the class teacher and SENCO.

Who you are:
Organised, patient and clear in your communication. You follow guidance, keep sessions focused, and help children move towards independence.

Requirements
  • Degree – 2:2 or above in any subject.
  • Communication – Strong written and spoken English.
  • Enhanced DBS – Held already or willingness to obtain.
  • Desire to work in education/with children – Genuine interest in EYFS and early child development.
  • Experience working with children – Nursery, school or volunteering experience is desirable but not essential.

The School:
This large Yardley primary serves a diverse community and keeps EYFS calm through simple, consistent routines from drop-off to home time. Indoor and outdoor areas are well equipped, with clear zones for role play, construction, small world and mark-making. Phonics runs daily with matched reading practice. Early maths is taught in small steps with practical models and frequent retrieval. Staff plan together and share ready-to-use activity cards, language prompts and observation sheets, so you are not reinventing resources. Inclusion is embedded. The SEN team runs regular plan–do–review cycles and maintains access to regulation spaces and visual supports. New colleagues receive a structured induction, weekly bite-size CPD and short coaching drop-ins with precise next moves. You get the conditions to make impact quickly and build evidence for ITT.

How to Apply
Email your CV and confirm availability and DBS status. Add two referees if possible. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a brief call and an in-school observation. Roles may close early if filled.

Due to the volume of applications, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
