Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (Deputy DSL) – Alternative ProvisionAre you an experienced safeguarding professional with a passion for supporting vulnerable young people? This alternative provision in Birmingham is seeking a dedicated Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (Deputy DSL) to join its supportive and committed team.
This is a rewarding opportunity to play a key role in protecting and supporting young people who may face significant social, emotional and educational barriers. Working closely with the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), you will help ensure that safeguarding remains at the heart of the provision, supporting students to access the help and guidance they need to thrive.
As Deputy DSL, you will be responsible for managing safeguarding records, logging and monitoring concerns, liaising with external agencies and providing mentoring support to students. You will build strong relationships with pupils, families and professionals, ensuring that safeguarding concerns are identified, recorded and acted upon effectively. The school offers a supportive leadership team, a collaborative staff culture and the opportunity to make a genuine difference to the lives of young people.
The Role:- Supporting the Designated Safeguarding Lead with all aspects of safeguarding provision
- Logging, monitoring and maintaining accurate safeguarding records
- Identifying and responding to safeguarding concerns in line with statutory guidance
- Attending multi-agency meetings and liaising with external professionals
- Supporting referrals to social care and other support services
- Providing mentoring and pastoral support to students
- Building positive relationships with pupils and families
- Promoting a culture of safeguarding, wellbeing and inclusion across the provision
The Successful Candidate Will Have:- Previous safeguarding experience within a school, alternative provision or youth setting
- A strong understanding of safeguarding legislation and procedures
- Experience working with vulnerable young people
- Excellent record-keeping and organisational skills
- Strong communication and relationship-building abilities
- The ability to remain calm, professional and confidential at all times
- Previous experience attending multi-agency meetings (desirable)
- DSL or safeguarding training (desirable)
