The Education Network is seeking to appoint a resilient and hardworking Learning Support Assistant (Autism) to join one of our fantastic partnership SEN schools in Newcastle beginning October 2019. The school are looking for a specialist Learning Support Assistant who will be able to work on a 1:1 basis with a pupil with Autism. The successful candidate will therefore be comfortable managing challenging and varying behaviour, and will ideally have experience supporting individuals with ASC.

This school is supportive with a strong network of staff who work together as a team to ensure that disadvantaged children are offered the best possible chance to succeed, making this an excellent opportunity to develop your practice as a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant.

Successful candidates must:

  • Have recent and relevant experience in a similar role, preferably working with children with Autism, though we will accept applicants with a background in mainstream education/care/nursing etc.
  • Possess the key transferrable skills needed to be able to effectively support children with ASC, such as resilience, confidence, patience and a nurturing personality.
  • Have experience dealing with challenging behaviour.
  • Be able to effectively assist learning on a 1:1, small group or whole class basis – depending on the requirement.
  • Possess an enhanced DBS certificate or be willing to obtain one.
  • Have a full understanding of the safeguarding responsibilities of a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant.

It is desirable (but not essential) that candidates have experience of:

  • Team Teach
  • PEG Feeding
  • Epi Pen
  • Moving and Handling
  • Autism Awareness
  • Personal Care
