The Education Network’s Durham and Middlesbrough office recently ran a Halloween writing competition for schools across the North East.

Over 20 schools entered the Key Stage 2 Halloween writing competition with a total of 62 pupil entrants overall.

Pupils were asked to complete a spooky Halloween story titled ‘The story of Sunnyvale Avenue’. The tale begins with a young boy called Jason who accidentally gets lost on his way home from school and ends up in a dark and scary street trying to find his way home.

The entries we received were so impressive that It was difficult to choose a winner with all the fantastically imaginative stories and excellent use of adjectives.

However, in the end The Education Network decided the winning school was Skelton Primary School, Redcar who won £50 worth of book vouchers! The winning pupil, Oliver Clarke included a twist in his story and as a result won a £10 Amazon voucher for himself, as well as the book vouchers for the school.

The two runners up from Rosa Street Primary School and New Penshaw Academy in Sunderland were also given £10 Amazon vouchers for their wonderful efforts.

At The Education Network we prioritise education over profit and frequently hold these competitions to give our schools the opportunity to win prizes and encourage learning and fun in lessons.

We love visiting our schools and meeting the staff and students and it give us the greatest joy that schools set our competitions as homework for their pupils.

If you have an idea and would like us to be involved or you would like to speak to The Education Network (Durham & Middlesbrough) regarding sponsorship opportunities or anything else, please contact Katie.vissenga@ednetwork.co.uk.
