Each of our 12 categories will be judged by the sponsors and The Chronicle before three shortlisted finalists for each category are picked.

Champion Fundraiser sponsored by npower:

An individual or group who have made a real difference to people’s lives in their charity fundraising efforts. These are people that have gone the extra mile for others.

Outstanding Act of Bravery sponsored by Blueline Taxis:

Do you know someone who has used their initiative in a crisis, tackled criminals or even saved a life? This is to honour a person who has demonstrated an outstanding act of bravery, whether it be a member of the public or emergency services.

Champion Child of Courage sponsored by Northumbrian Water:

This award is for a youngster who in his or her young life has already displayed remarkable courage and provides an example for others to follow.

Champion Business sponsored by Bernicia:

This award celebrates excellence in community support from corporate companies and seeks to identify those organisations which best exemplify the social and community spirit which is at the core of North East culture.

Champion Teacher sponsored by The Education Network:

This aims to recognise the teachers in our region who go above and beyond the call of duty to get the best out of their pupils, regardless of ability.

Green Champion Award sponsored by Banks Group:

Do you know a group, project, business or individual who have shown outstanding initiative and determination in active environmental work? They should be forward thinking, wanting to push the boundaries of environmental awareness, be a great role model for others who want to get involved, and being keen to continue their good work in the future.

Young Community Champion:

This Award is for a youngster under the age of 18 who has gone to great lengths to improve the community in which they live. They will be a great advocate for the area and what the youth of today should be.

Armed Forces Champion:

This award is to show our gratitude for our armed forces and those who serve or have served for our country with pride.

Sporting Champion:

This could be an individual or team who deserves the recognition for their hard work, whether it be for outstanding performance during the game or an unsung hero behind the scenes that uses sport as a tool to make the community around them a better place.

Champion Neighbour:

This could be for someone that has helped their local area perhaps by showing outstanding acts if kindness to residents or helping to improve the local community in which they live and could be could even be considered a champion ambassador for their area.

Champion Mum or Dad:

This is to recognise mums and dads in the region who truly are champion!

Champion Pensioner:

This award is for a local person over the age of 60 who has gone to great lengths to improve the community in which they live. Have they performed an inspirational act? Have they been a great advocate for the area? Or is it just one of your amazing grandparents.
