Are you a competent 1:1 Teaching Assistant looking to work with Challenging Behaviour?
The Education Network are pleased to be with a partner school on their Recruitment Campaign. The school is a small, pupil-led Resource Base/Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) located in Witham, Essex.
We are looking for 1:1 Teaching Assistants with excellent communication, literacy and numeracy skills and the ability to deal with very challenging behaviour.
You will work with a range of ages and the work will depend on the age of the children and their individual needs, but may include:
- preparing learning materials under the supervision of the teacher working inside or outside the classroom with individuals or groups
- adapting support according to needs
- looking after children's physical, social and emotional welfare
- creating a stimulating environment
- giving information and help to teachers
- keeping records and attending review meetings
This inspirational school is registered for Key Stage 2-5 for pupils with Social Emotional Mental Health (SEMH) needs - previously known as Behavioural, Emotional and Social Difficulties (BESD), Special Educational Needs (SEN) and a separate Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) unit.
All pupils receive individualised programmes which support their transition into the school environment.
They operate an Integrated Schools Services model, which includes Integration services and Community Outreach services. Each tutorial group has a teaching team of three (Teacher, HLTA and TA) supported by specialist teachers, a Pupil Facilitator and the Deputy Head and Head Teacher.
The primary activity of the school is the provision of specialist education services to young people with Social Emotional Mental Health (SEMH) needs - previously known as Behavioural, Emotional and Social Difficulties (BESD) - and highly focused education services for pupils with an Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC).
As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant you will work with the most disaffected, challenging pupils the South East. Pupils have often been excluded from numerous schools and have been out of full-time education for an average of 18 months before they arrive at this school. The school has not permanently excluded a single pupil in more than six years as they are aware of the damage that further exclusion causes.
The school offers positive outcomes to young people of school age who have disengaged, or are at the point of disengaging with education. Many of these pupils are known to the criminal justice system and a significant percentage of the pupils are looked after or children in need. Most have been excluded from at least one school.
Despite these challenge the school and their 1:1 Teaching.
There is a sense of pride, purpose and achievement. Importantly, more than 80% of the pupils are in education, training or employment six months after leaving.
If you are interested in the 1:1 Teaching Assistant opportunity then please do get in touch with The Education Network on 01245 392580 or email your CV to Chelmsford@ednetwork.co.uk.
