The Role of a school Nurse within my client school in Barnsley is a full time, Monday to Friday 08:00am-16:00pm
There is a specific ‘first aid’ office which is your base and has necessary supplies for the basic nursing care required by the pupils and occasionally the teachers.
Alongside the school’s first aiders and with the support of a phone and radio, the role is being available to attend to pupils in need of assistance around the school.
The typical needs include supplying analgesia and prescribed medications with parental consent which is either documented in a locked cabinet or obtained verbally over the phone.
There are also school trips and events that require risk assessments for the pupils with medical needs, care plans and PEEPs (personal emergency evacuation plans) in place.
The care plans are in the process of updating so support to the other first aiders to complete this thoroughly with the correct information is essential.
Pupils also attend the first aid office when they are feeling unwell, they need to be thoroughly assessed and observed and if they are well enough they should return to learning as quickly as possible, if not, communicating with the senior members of staff to make a decision on getting a pupil home or to a doctor is required. It’s important to use your training and judgement in this situation.
You are involved in fire drills and in the case of emergency you are the first call for the school.
The role is very relaxed and the school is supportive and explain everything clearly.
You work alongside other first aiders, attendance and the vice principal to support and ensure pupils are in the best possible health to continue their learning.
If you feel that you would suit the role please contact Kim Johnson on 0114 212 9362 for more information and send an up to date CV via the link below.
