1:1 Alternative Provision Tutor
The Education Network is Cheshire's leader in providing 1-1 Tutors to students not accessing full time education. We work directly with mainstream, SEN schools as well as 5 local authorities and this is expanding at a rapid rate, specifically within the Crewe area. As such we are looking to build upon our current bank of 1:1 Alternative Provision Tutors-currently in excess of 70 working individuals. At present we have a high demand for tutors who can deliver core subject areas-particularly Science & Maths, although we will also have ongoing requirements for tutors in other subject areas.
Many of the young people we support on a 1-1 basis have mild, moderate & sometimes severe learning difficulties and/or SEMH issues. The majority are KS3 through to KS5 and many are dis-engaged, having not attended school for some time and as such can display challenging behaviour, or may have certain emotional barriers to learning. As a result, we are seeking Tutors with a background in working hard to re-engage students back into education, who have a flexible approach and are resilient to facing extreme types of behaviour.
Many of the young people come with very little or no academic background, so we need Tutors who can perform basic baseline assessments to ascertain working levels and plan for sessions moving forward. Ideal tutors will have their own resources/ bag of goodies as we say! Useful links can be provided.
This can be a very rewarding role and suits Tutors who are seeking a part or full time- table to possibly work around another job, childcare, studies or simply just because you prefer to teach 1-1. If you have a passion for working with students to nurture, and stimulate their learning experience, then we want to hear from you.
Few comments from a newly registered Tutor:-
Since joining The Education Network a month ago, I have really enjoyed myself. With nearly 20 yrs of classroom experience behind me, I was looking for a career change but was unsure what to do. After I had posted my CV online, Eileen and Claire were in touch almost immediately. I was a little hesitant because I've tried supply teaching before & they suggested I might be suited to 1:1 tutoring.
My DBS check finally came through and I was able to start tutoring. After a couple of weeks I was fully booked. I'm not going to pretend that all of my students are perfect: clearly, they are out of mainstream education for a reason. However, I have had some really rewarding sessions, and those that have engaged have really made progress.
Tutoring allows flexibility in my life. I'm no longer up at the crack of dawn and whilst I do plan and resource each session carefully, I'm tailoring them to meet specific needs and interests. Marking has been significantly reduced, which would appeal to all of us! I can wear my own clothes and don't have to constantly tell pupils to sort out their uniform, empty their mouths, put their phones away etc.
The Education Network have been really supportive in deploying me and they have answered all my questions helpfully and promptly. There are lots of other agencies out there, but I would definitely recommend getting in touch with this one if you too are feeling brave enough to walk away from the chalk face and those long holidays (except they aren't really holidays and it usually costs more).
To express an interest, please submit a CV via the link below or if you would prefer to discuss further before applying, please feel free to contact Eileen or Claire on 01925 247820 for a confidential chat.
